What is a cumnatione?

The word midwife is the sort of word whose etymology seems perfectly clear until one tries to figure it out. The word actually comes from Middle English, and was first recorded in 1303. Mid is probably a preposition, meaning "together with". Wife would seem to refer to the woman giving birth, who is usually a wife. Thus a midwife was literally a "with woman" or "a woman who assists other women in childbirth".

The word cumnatione, a newly coined term, has a similar etymology. This word comes from Latin, and was first recorded in 2008. Cum here is also a preposition, meaning "with". Natione is the ablative form of the word natio, and means "nation", "race", or "people". Thus a cumnatione is literally a "with nation" or "a person who assists other persons in the birth of nations".

Why Cumnatione?

Cumnatione.com is all about the work of cumnationes.

Cumnationes do not just assist people in the birth of nations as midwives assist mothers to be. Cumnationes act in fact as doulas, as experienced, pragmatic assistants who provide intelligent and rational choices in support of a nation prior to, during, and after its birth. In some cases, traditional doula care can last several months or even up to a year post partum — especially in cases when mothers are suffering from post partum depression, when children with special needs require longer care, or when there are multiple infants. With a cumnatione the situation is no different.

Nation-building is not easy, and cumnationes are fully aware of all the things that can derail a national project or make it a lot less successful than it could be. Cumnationes assist people who wish to start nations from the ground up. Just as any project manager needs to go through all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in order to ensure a reasonably successful project, cumnationes also have to go through nation Initiation, Planning, Execution, and Closure phases to ensure relatively successful national projects. Cumnationes also act as consultants in national projects that have already started but need to be more successful.
